Anishinabek ready for self-governance
 
UOI Offices, Nipissing First Nation (April 24, 2012) – The Anishinabek are ready to move forward in self-governance. This is the message that came from the Chiefs Committee on Governance on April 18 as the Nation prepares for the adoption of the Anishinaabe Chi-Naaknigewin (AH-NISH-IN-AH BAY CHE-NOCK-NE-GAY-WIN) in June. The Anishinaabe Chi-Naaknigewin is founded on Ngo Dwe Waangizid Anishinaabe.  It is a statement of fundamental values and principles.
The Anishinaabe Chi-Naaknigewin is about unity and identity among Anishinabek, a Nation of People.  Our nation’s constitution will inspire us, especially our youth, to move forward and establish our governments, implement our treaties, and exercise our inherent rights and jurisdictions.
 
Plans are underway to adopt and proclaim the Anishinaabe Chi-Naaknigewin at the June 2012 Grand Council.
